Fixed Bridges
Missing teeth can be replaced with a "fixed" bridge. A "fixed" bridge is one that is not removable and is permanently cemented in place. Bridges replace missing teeth and are supported by the existing teeth surrounding the space. The existing teeth that surround the space are shaped for crowns that will attach to a bridge tooth. The bridge is then cemented to the crown teeth. The obvious advantage of this type of bridge over a removable partial is that it's not removable. It stays in place. A fixed bridge looks very natural and can be completed in 2 appointments.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are, in a way, the ultimate expression of a smile makeover. Dentures are appropriate for patients without any teeth or will be losing any remaining teeth due to disease. Other candidates include existing denture-wearers. Having no teeth at all presents multiple obvious challenges. Appearing in public without any teeth can have social and professional consequences. And, having no teeth creates functional problems relating to both speech and chewing food. Dentures are removable and can be utilized to replace missing teeth. It's important to note that part of the word, "removable," includes the word, "MOVABLE." Many patients are able to tolerate this arrangement quite well. Some patients require more retention. The answer often is to use dental implants in conjunction with the denture. With implants, dentures become extremely stable in the mouth.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are similar to complete dentures except the patients have some stable teeth. In many cases, partial dentures are effective where a fixed bridge is not possible. Partial dentures are supported by a combination of the remaining teeth and the gum tissues. Partial dentures are typically held in the mouth with metal clasps that grip some of the remaining teeth. These clasps can be reduced or eliminated with "precision attachments" built into crowns on the remaining teeth. Partials can also be retained with dental implants. Valplast partials are metal free and are the most natural looking. During your initial consultation, we will advise you on which partial will suit your situation best.
