Sedation Dentistry
Many patients (up to 70% of the population) avoid seeing a dentist due to fear or lack of time. Our goal is to create a relaxed, comfortable, and safe experience for the patient, with little or no anxiety and little or no memory of the appointment. During your initial private consultation, we can determine which form of sedation will benefit you most.
Inhalation Sedation / Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide/oxygen is a safe, effective sedative agent used to calm a patients’ fear of the dental visit and enhance effective communication. Nitrous oxide (N2O) is simply a gas, which you can breathe in. Typically patients will smell a faint, sweet aroma and experience a sense of well-being and relaxation. Since it may produce a feeling of giddiness or euphoria, it is often called “laughing gas”.
Oral Sedation
With Oral Sedation, our goal is not to create sleep. Sedated patients may feel like they slept through the entire appointment since they have little or no memory of the appointment. With oral sedation, patients can expect to have more dental work completed in 1 visit, decreasing the time spent at the dentist. It’s as easy as taking a pill prior to your appointment time.
IV Sedation
In most people, IV sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being bothered by what's going on. Secondly, the drugs used for IV sedation can produce either partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the period of time when the drug first kicks in until it wears off. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much, or perhaps even nothing at all, of what happened. So it may, indeed, appear as if you were "asleep" during the procedure. Our licensed specialist performs intravenous sedation.
